blahgging the night away

I found out about a Yayoi Kusama exhibit at the Whitney Museum and have wanted to go for the past few months, but never got the chance to/forgot about it, and it's ending today. But hopefully I'll go today! I really don't know why I'm writing this right now because it's 1:47 A.M. and I'm half-asleep and my eyelids are starting to get that droopy feeling.

She had a collab with Louis Vuitton, so she was featured in some magazines that I was reading along with her artwork. All I can say is: wow. She's incredible. There was this one article that I read (I can't remember what magazine it was) about her featuring her artwork when she was younger, and I think that it's great that she still loves doing that and never lost sight of it.
I really should go to sleep now. Good night (or, technically, good morning...?).

queen sylvia and lady kahlo

I've been particuarly fascinated with two incredible women in history lately: Sylvia Plath and Frida Kahlo. (Coincidentally, Sylvia had a daughter named Frieda.) Sylvia is by far my favorite historical person ever. I learned about her when I did a project for my Creative Writing class in June. My friends think she's incredibly depressing, but I think that she's the queen of everything lovely. Her poems are meaningful and her life, although it ended after 30 years, was noteworthy. I keep a picture of her in my binder, which makes bad days better. I learned about Frida in third grade, as a part of my art class, but have only looked into her life and work recently.

My favorite picture of Sylvia, which is the one that I keep in my binder

I took these pictures last week and thought they were fitting for this post.

Frida said that she painted herself because she was the best subject to paint.

For the aforementioned Sylvia Plath project, I printe out a ton of pictures of her and made a huge collage out of them. My 7th grade C.W. teacher has it; I have to remember to ask for it back before I graduate.

P.S. I'm blogging more often now! Which is weird, since I seem to be blogging more with the busy school year than in the summer. Yay me.

in which i analyze (and the fashion universe talks to me)

On Wednesday I had a mini fashion-epiphany. I was in Barnes & Noble looking for a few magazines  when I found the foreign fashion magazines. I've read them before, but I never really read them before. It was so weird. I can't really explain what happened. I was just crouching on the floor surrounded by fashion mags from other countries when I realized a bunch of things that don't make sense when I say it (or write it). It was my brain saying: This is what makes fashion fashion. This is why blogs are born. This is so beautiful. There were so many things running through my mind while I was sitting there looking at the magazines and writing. Something clicked in my head that was like: Fashion isn't just clothes and how you wear them. Fashion is about feelings and evoking memories and beautiful things into outfits. I felt like I'd finally been let in on a big secret. So I bought a special edition copy of Harper's Bazaar that talked about the a/w 2012 shows because it focuses on the big picture of each collection while narrowing in on the details. Which is what I'm learning to do now; look at the details of clothes to understand the grand scheme of things and craft better outfits, ones that actually have more meanings and emotions than usual. I hope that I don't sound pretentious; I'm just trying to sum up everything that I felt/feel.

Also, when I picked up the copy of Harper's Bazaar that I mentioned before, it opened up to the page talking about Dolce & Gabbana's a/w 2012 line, and OH MY I AM IN LOVE WITH IT. It's a large part as to why I bought the magazine. All of the details and possible stories behind everything is just amazing. The cherub dresses and earrings are the best. This is by far my absolute favorite collection of clothes so far. Everything feels so Renaissance era/Michelangelo-y and I find that mixture with clothes to be beautiful. That and the princess-like designs, textures, and colors. (The accesories are amazing! Especially the veils and once again, THOSE CHERUB EARRINGS.)

This makes me think of something out of a Wilhem and Jacob Grimm fairy tale. It's so eerily ethereal yet creepy at the same time. It looks an abandoned attic overrun by flowers.

ouija baby (fall vibes pt. 2)

So Halloween is nearing, since it's officially autumn. My school sadly can't be normal and let us dress up on Halloween. Instead, we 8th grader folks have a day called Senior Dress Up day where we dress up in pre-approved costumes. And it's not on Halloween. Which honestly makes no sense to me, but oh well. I have a lot of feelings built up inside for Halloween, though. I'm usually not really that excited about it, but this year I'm actually putting thought into my costume, something is has been unknown to me since third grade (which is the first year that I went trick-or-treating. I find this sad.)

Picture day in Heavenly Creatures and The Virgin Suicides

This is the dress that I found on Etsy and I'm freaking out over how amazing it is. I've been looking for a The Virgin Suicides/Picnic At Hanging Rock dress for a long time, and now I finally found one that can double as a Halloween costume. I was thinking of dressing up for Halloween/Senior Dress-Up Day as a witch that is very Virgin Suicides-y and carries around Ouija boards and wears flower crowns and is in a cult. Hopefully someone else besides me thinks that this is a good idea because I tried explaining this to some friends and they didn't get it. Of course, my "Ouija board" has to be a printed-out picture from the Internet because if I bought an actual Ouija board, I'd be too freaked out to use it because someone I know had a freakish experience with one, and I don't think I know anyone else who'd use it with me (because to be honest, right now I don't think I'm quite ready to use it by myself). Plus, most Ouija boards on eBay are from people who have messages that say "ER MER GERD I NEED TO GET THIS OUT OF MY HOUSE IT'S SO FREAKING SCARY but I would like you to buy it. Please. Buy it now." So that's not exactly reassuring. Also, a quick note, I just found out that Senior Dress-Up Day is on Halloween so yay go misinformation.

Siouxsie & the Banshees are just incredibly powerful. Their music just feels like it's flowing through my veins when I listen to it and I can't help but get up and attempt to dance for a few seconds, then end up just sitting down and swaying back and forth with a lot of head bobbing. I listened to "Halloween" over and over again when I was a-thinking about fall vibes and Halloween and how to fill a costume with as much angst as I can.

Still from an Alfred Hitchcock film. It would be fantastic to embody the suspense in his movies in a costume, or even an outfit.

I need to watch The Craft. I saw the trailer and it has the vibes that are currently in my head right now.

I found this one when I was Googling something and decided to save it. I feel like it really fits in with the autumn-y, creepy vibes. It's really interesting. I've always wondered where this was.

This song has a lot to do with wolves and autumn and dark vibes. It's by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs (a rad band from the '60s) and it's called "Little Red Riding Hood".

Stay weird, kids. Be Wednesday Addams.
