hole/courtney love + lolitas + everything oh so lovely

So lately I've been feeling very Courtney Love circa Hole-sy. I spent the entire night on Etsy looking up vintage plastic clips and lolita magazines. But I've also simultaneously been obsessed with psychedelia and everything else in the 1960s/70s

I was thinking of jazzing up my jean jacket (inspired by Meadham Kirchoff) to be devoted to feminism/Riot Grrrl/Courtney Love and Hole/weird creepy girly things/etc. I'm being lame and not posting outfits, I know, but for some reason my teachers like to torture us with about a gazillion tests in June. Oh well. I can look forward to getting a tripod for my birthday (bleh, I can finally take my own pictures), convincing my mother to let me traipse around Manhattan and such, and finally-finally-posting outfits. I feel bad for only providing pictures and captions for your reading material. Be prepared, my dears!

magazines, zines, and the whole shebang

Oh hai there, little feminist/girl power symbols. Allow me to explain how you came to be in this blog post.
Man, oh man, what a whole lot of AMAZINGNESS the past two days have been like. Yesterday I-sadly-discovered that Barnes & Noble sells BUST magazine! I had been reading about how it started out as a zine in the '90s, but I thought that now it was a magazine that was only sold in certain stores. I obsessed over it and basically was afraid to bend it. AND today, I received Meagan's zines (Teenage Grrrl Issues One and Two) and the zines-as well as the great package that it came in-are amazing; they're a couple pages long; short and sweet packed with feminist awesomeness.
Meagan's awesome designs (my hand is blocking some of the feminism symbols, but I'd rather do that than have
               stalkers, ya know?)

Oh! And I made my first DIY! I created both the actual finished product and the DIY instructions. Remember that tulle that I bought yesterday, the one that I was obsessed with? Well, with it, I made.....get ready..........

A TULLE HEADBAND!
(Now is the time to applaud, my dears.)

So I'm really excited about this. The Virgin Suicides + Twin Peaks + The Sleeping Beauty (French) = This headband. It looks-and feels-so ethereal; the dress I'm wearing wasn't planned to go with this, I just happened to be wearing it when I shoved the headband on my head and began taking pictures. It feels like something you'd wear while treading the water of a quiet lake in the middle of the woods while mist danced on your skin.

More proof of my tulle obsession, no?

Here's how to make it:
Instructions
  • tulle (I used white, but you can choose any color)
  • thin headband (the one I used was a plastic one from Forever 21)
  • scissors
  • tape

It's simple, really. Basically:

1. Cut a strip of tulle off of the entire sheet. It should be at least as long as your thumb, and can be crooked, but try not to make every single piece awkwardly shaped.

2. Tie the tulle onto the headband so that it looks sort of like a bow. Do this repeatedly until the headband is basically completely covered.

AND...

Voila!

Your very own tulle headband! Now you can prance around pretending to be a happy unicorn until your wee little hooves get tired.
Or you can just stare at the pictures of the headband. That's acceptable, too.

Yours truly,
Britney

i dream a dream of tulle

Today I finally got my hands on some tulle (which may have been a mistake, seeing as I spent the entire afternoon using it as a veil)) since I was planning to use it for a DIY project. I finally started the project (to be posted later) but not before spending approximately an hour of my life prancing around with the tulle and a headband on my head to make a makeshift veil.

This was a horrible attempt to get a picture of the rest of my outfit. My horrible lack of a tripod (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get one for my birthday) only allowed me to capture this part.

keen-eyed one

Recently, I've gotten really into photography-studying it, looking at the work of other photographers, etc. In the past few days, I've found incredible photographers. Let's go through a few of them:

1. Mark Kean

2. Maddie Goldbleck
 blog: http://sillyinnocentgirl.blogspot.com/ website:http://maddiegoldbeck.com/

3. Eleanor Hardwick

All of these are so dreamy....I'm especially in love with the photographs of Maddie and Eleanor (no, not because of girl power). The pictures are just so dreamy that they make you want to slip into an alternate universe filled with dreamy shrines and long days. I just said dreamy twice in the same sentence. That's how mesmerizing these photographs are.

drive me to the moon in a sea of silver

Lately I've had spacey, 1960s vibes. It's a bit odd, seeing as the two are a wee bit different-sort of in different categories if you think about it-but that's what makes it so great when they're paired together.

This is from the Beacon's Closet website. The John Lennon-like specs x the Marianne Faithfull hair x the silvery spaceship-like top/dress is just fantastic. I'm obsessed with this picture. The trees in the background make it look like something out of a fantasy story, doesn't it? A spacey, '60-ish fantasy story....

Anjelica Houston in a sea of silver glitter. The wig-which might possibly be her real hair but dyed, but I'm guessing it's a wig-looks so futuristic yet classic, especially on her.

This is a picture of a DIY mosaic collar that I found on Self Constructed Freak.

Another picture from the Beacon's Closet website, with the same setting/outfit/model. Here, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful silver shoes that the model is wearing.

I'm not sure who this is, but that is by far the best jumpsuit ever-which is saying something, because I usually don't like jumpsuits. These should be the new spacesuits. Huh. Imagine that. Everyone would want to be an astronaut.

Sparkly socks/stockings AND sparkly shoes. Wow. Meadham Kirchoff, oh how I love thee. The shoes are in such an odd shape; it brings to mind the world created by Lewis Carroll in Alice in Wonderland. My little toesies feel so lonesome without these.

Jane Fonda as Barbarella in the 1968 film Barbarella. Truth be told, I've never seen it, I've only obsessed over the costumes and hair.
The 1969 moon landing.

I'm in love with these! Maybe just as much as the Meadham Kirchoff ones....
......that's a lot of love.
